June for me is for two things: the NBA Finals and the French Open. Basketball and tennis have always been fascinating to me. One is a team sport which usually spotlights players that are a cut above the rest of their team and the league. The other one is an individual sport where you see athletic specimens go head to head. Sports is about narratives, unbelievable skills, and occasional funny moments that make watching it so worthwhile and this list of my June favorites has all of these.

  1. Rafael Nadal regains his reign as King of Clay

After battling with injuries and having two slamless seasons of tennis, Rafael Nadal has turned it around again. Known for his resilience and his mastery in the clay court, Rafael Nadal showed arguably his most dominating form in the Roland Garros Finals this year. With his victory, Nadal won his 10th French Open title—the most by one player in the Open era—and he won it for the third time without dropping a set. After winning his La Décima, Rafael Nadal holds a Roland Garros record of 79-2 and sits comfortably as the world number two just behind Andy Murray.

  1. LeBron James ridiculous dunks in the NBA Finals

Despite losing the NBA Finals, LeBron James has turned everybody into witnesses yet again with these two ridiculous dunks. One of which might be a statement that he’s still the best player in the world right now.

I mean, just listen to Mike Breen’s commentary:

“I’m still the best player in the world right now!” -LeBron, probably:

  1. David West and Tristan Thompson is still a better love story than Twilight.

Game 5, the last and clinching game of the NBA finals, got a little chippy and way too heated when David West and Tristan Thompson got into it after Kyrie Irving missed a layup and tried to get the ball back from West who snatched the defensive rebound.

That’s one hell of a kiss:

June has not been short of great highlights and meme-worthy moments, hopefully the rest of the year will be the same.
